Lanyon Reviews

Such a lovely house in an amazing location. Plenty of space for 8 adults. Super comfy beds. Kitchen had everything we needed. We were lucky enough to have nice weather so we could enjoy the lovely garden. Would definitely recommend Lanyon.
The property had superb views, however the general condition and maintenance was in my view completely unacceptable. Chipped paint, dirty and stained surfaces, window shelves stained, skirting boards dirty and chipped, water leak stain in the bedroom, worn beds with holes in the fabric, drinking glasses and cutlery needed cleaning before use, window frames dirty, the hot tub was not covered correctly, absolutely filthy with general debris and required significant cleaning before use. The bath was chipped and the bathroom in general was just not clean. Walls and doors were obviously and poorly just covered in emulsion with roller marks and missed patches everywhere. General decor was clearly still 1970s ok if clean and maintained and pictures on the wall of throats being cut is at best highly unusual for a family setting. Front door was rotten. We were visited by people asking for a viewing because the lawn was for sale. I dont believe I have stayed at a property in such a poor state of maintenance and repair, I feel completely ripped off, trading purely on location. How can Sykes cottages accept this property as good enough? shows a very poor understanding of the market.

This was a return stay for us, being Cornish and having family in Carbis Bay. House was great, as expected, with a few welcome additions microwave, nightlightstorches. It had everything we needed and its in an ideal position to get to the beach for daily walks & swims
Fantastic property with lovely comfortable furniture and beds. Nicely kept garden with great views. Tea, coffee and milk waiting for our arrival which was a nice touch. No dogs allowed upstairs, with stair gates available for use which was handy to facilitate this. I forgot to put the stair gate away, sorry! Only negatives i would say, but not really affected our break are, carpets could do with freshening or maybe not have cream in downstairs living area, caused me anxiety for fear of spilling, or dog paw prints after coming in from the garden. Dry function of washer dryer kept beeping with an error so had to air dry by radiator, but again, not a big issue. My 9 year old special physical and emotional needs was devastated to have to leave, insisting we buy the house and stay! If you ever feel like gifting the house, keep us in mind

We had a great two week stay at Lanyon. It is a perfect location to access the beach at Carbis Bay, and the train station to get to St Ives. The house is large so is perfect for a big family. I would describe the house as tired, everywhere needs painting and the carpet needs replacing very light and covered in stains The bathrooms both need replacing, very old and tired. The kitchen is lovely and has everything you need. Be warned the curtains in some of the bedrooms are not black out, so my little one kept waking up early. There is a large garden with two lovely swing chairs, the view is beautiful. We had a few problems with people blocking the drive, there were a lot of surfers about and they park down Headland Road, and subsequently over the drive at times. A lick of paint, new bathrooms & carpets and it would be amazing.

Lanyon is a beautiful property, stylish and comfortable in a unique location. Cornish biscuits and coffee on arrival were a nice touch. Rachael was happy to help with anything we needed. This property is suitable for eight people plus dog very comfortably and we had everything on hand for our second stay here. I would 100 recommend this holiday home for people who appreciate style, comfort and the beauty of the Cornish coast.
Conveniently located a 10 minute walk to to the beach and a 20 minute walk into St ives. Large house, big garden great for dogs and families. Would return!
An absolutely fabulous place in a great location and the three young children loved all the toys home from home Only thing lacking was mirrors in the bedrooms! ! Will be back again!! x

Booked over the phone, great service. BUT when we got accommodation, it became apparent that the hot tub reason for booking was not working. Contacted numerous times with little contact back. If I had known hot tub would be unavailable I would have booked a smaller property with no hot tub for a lot less. Feel very disappointed as usually have a fantastic service and stay with Sykes. On the plus side house was beautiful, but does need a freshener, and as beautiful as the garden was, could improve on seating areas, the egg chairs at top of garden are seriously worn, and quite dangerous. I will be discussing my stay with Sykes with full pictures.
The property is excellently located, with incredible views and a great size and kitchen amenities. Perfectly located between two beaches Carbis bay with great facilities and Porthkidney which is a great but steep uneven walk with breathtaking views, and so quiet. However, we were disappointed to see that some previous reoccurring points people have made were still our experience too and efforts hadnt been made to improve. Bins were overflowing on our arrival, and I had to request for this to be emptied, many instances of dog waste in the garden which also is down to prior guests but should be thoroughly checked, oven really unclean and weird smell lingering in living room. Did report this to the holiday cottages, but ultimately it was really disheartening to have to do quite a level of our own cleaning upon arrival given the price of the property would appreciate some compensation for this. The property is the perfect size for a family break, really spacious and relaxing. However, there is great opportunity to invest a small amount of money to make it even better and suited to the size, such as upgrading bathrooms showers, more mirrors and removing both posts in the front garden. Whilst it was a fantastic break for us, and nice property think a little more love and attention would really improve the service and guest experience.
Had a very enjoyable time except for the weather. My only fault with the property was no microwave which many people have commented on
Rachael
Very comfortable, spacious accommodation within easy walking distance of the beach. Well equipped although a microwave in the kitchen & mirrors in the bedrooms would have been useful. Paintings, especially those in the lounge, may prove disturbing for children!
Robert
Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the Lanyon and would love to stay again in the future. The property is stunning, very spacious with outstanding views. The location is also perfect easy walking distance to wonderful beaches, shopscafes and train line into St. Ives. It was clean and tidy with great living space to unwind after our busy days. There were a few minor issues which didnt detract from our overall enjoyment but would make the property even better, these include updating the bathrooms and having a minimum of 2 showers. Also getting rid of the post in the driveway as it restricts manoeuvrability for larger cars. Thank you so much for hosting us.
Lovely property , very clean and tidy , beautiful area especially for the dogs , thank you so much
Angela
This property needs a lot of updating. The bathroom and shower room were very dated and not particularly clean, there was a lot of hair in the shower room disgustingNo microwave and the toaster was absolute rubbish. Two chairs in the garden were broken so only 4 chairs for an 8 person house, the hot tub took ages to heat and we spent a lot of money on logs, kindling and firelighters. One shower for a 8 persons house , really??? The beds were nice, the towels were lovely and the kitchen fully equipped., other than the above. The view was amazing but the grass needed a good cut and the garden needed tending. The previous occupiers left loads of rubbish in all the bins which meant we had nowhere to put ours. We would not return to this property.
Nicola
We loved the propertys location & layout, the weather was amazing and we found the house comfortable, slight gripes no microwave, toaster useless & the beds way too soft for us. The only major let down was cleanliness, id describe this properly as surface cleaned at best, on arrival the downstairs shower room was filthy! The toilet had not been cleaned properly and the floor was thick in hair, we pushed the twin beds together and underneath was grim, this is a real let down, I had to go out buy cleaning products and clean, which I definitely would not expect to do, who ever Is responsible for this job needs a lesson in cleaning because its a real let down to such a lovely place. We enjoyed our stay we would definitely return if the property was deep cleaned, had I have paid the prices in high season then Id be really annoyed at how dirty places were! The woodwork throughout the house absolutely needs painting which looks tatty and lets the house down.
Unlikely to book again. The house overall was adequate, over priced. Bathroom and shower room need updating also the furniture very tired and a strange odour in the dining area.
The property was well equipped, clean and tidy. It is in an amazing location and the kids really enjoyed the toys. There is plenty to keep the family occupied and we will definitely be returning. The property has been well thought out and has something for everyone. Thank you for a memorable break away!
Great location and view over the Bay, 5 minutes walking distance from the train station with easy access to St Ives. Before diving into a bit of detail I would like to say my family and I had a lovely holiday at the Lanyon and made some great memories. On booking there were no reviews as it was a new listing at the time so we took a risk and overall we were very happy. The walk to the nearest dog friendly beach takes you down an undulating coast pathtrack which is challenging, lots of steps and takes about 10 minutes once you cross the train track. But the reward once down on the beach is great, a very nice sandy beach and no restrictions for the dog. We stayed there for several hours on one of our days. Carbis bay is a lovely sandy beach but down a steep road. There is a hotelbar where you can have a drink or two which was nice. The beach has restriction on the time dogs are allowed, I think 10am6pm but pls check The house is big and spacious, but perhaps could do with some updating in the main bathroom and shower room. All works perfectly fine but just looked a little dated. No TV in three of the bedrooms, but as we were out and about most of the time not too much of an issue. Doors a few of the interior doors did not open or close easily, you had to apply some force and this created a loud noise each time, not so much of a problem in the day, but at night was just not great. easily fixed I am sure The garden is a big space which is great for the dog, but the lawn needs cutting and grass needs some attention. Also need some better quality outside furniture, what is supplied seems very much like an after thought. Also a couple of sun loungers would be great. We liked the idea of the Wood burning hot tub in advance, but there is no wood supplied and the reality once there is it all seemed like a lot of effort. Would strongly recommend installing an electric hot tub in the future, as the view is great. We had two cars, one being a largish 4x4. The driveway to the house had an old cement post to one side of the entrance which was more of a hindrancehazard and would recommend this be removed. The main sitting roomtv room is a nice large space with comfortable seating and open fire, I would recommend they remove the main painting opposite the TV as it depicts somebody being beheaded!, not great for young kids.. St Ives Take the rain as parking in St Ives can be problematic, it is one stop on the train. We enjoyed Cintra as a fishtapas type restaurant overlooking the harbour. Very fresh and tasty. I hope this helps, all in all the house and location worked great for us . 3 adults, 2 children 11 & 14 and a Cockapoo dog
Thank you so much for hosting this beautiful place! We enjoyed our stay here! The place is super clean and well equipped 3
Comfortable and spacious house with a good garden and lovely views. Fantastic position close to Porthkidney sands where our dog enjoyed his days immensely. Fairly well appointed although a house at this price point should have a BBQ available for use. Some of the listed facilities outside shower and coffee machine are a bit misleading hose with sprinkler attachment and cafitiere would be more accurate. Bigger bath towels would be better. All in all though, a nice place to stay.
