Portside Reviews

This is our second time staying at Portside, and it did not disappoint. It is the perfect location to access the beautiful Carbis Bay Beach, watch sunsets over St.Ives, relax in the hot tub or walking the coast path. We experienced an issue with the TV, which the reps from CBHs rectified.

Portside is a stunning house with amazing views of the sea. Everything about it made our holiday even better. It is extremely well equipped, comfortable and attractively furnished. The location is also wonderful, a short walk from the beach and across the road from the station taking you into the gorgeous town of St Ives without the hassle of trying to park. We have had the most relaxing, amazing holiday here and cannot fault it. Thank you so much.
The downstairs outside table and chairs were of little interest. The furnishings in general were very good. It would have been nicer to have better balcony furniture rather than the plastic table and chairs. These were all visible from the road and in a way let the superb quality of the property down. The large open plan lounge was excellent with plenty of light and the views were outstanding.
Couldnt fault the accommodation, fully equipped and really comfortable. Stunning location. Handy to get the train into St Ives and explore Cornwall. Would highly recommend. I do feel the outdoor furniture could do with replacing but it doesnt matter when you are sat in the hot tub ! Will visit again x
Another wonderful relaxing time. Having stayed in Starboard last year and Portside this time. We would highly recommend either accommodation. A beautiful accommodation location. Excellent cleaning job. Really happy holiday. 5 stars from us all!
Russell
Last year stayed in Starboard this year Portside had a great time in both. Stunning views and we got the weather to go with it. We will definitely go again and would totally recommend Russ & Julie
Quality accommodation in a beautiful area. Near perfect.
Elizabeth
An absolutely superb property. The location is perfect, and the views are spectacular. A high end, quality finish to the property with everything we could need. Beautifully comfortable beds with luxurious bed linen. Wonderfully clean throughout. Spacious and tastefully decorated, it was a pleasure to stay here and would happily return. The house is located literally two minutes from the train station with regular and cheap trains to St Ives but there is absolutely no noise disturbance whatsoever. The walk over the coast path is lovely too.
Alison
Lovely house, lovely position, the view was stunning from the balcony. Poor maintenance and cleanliness in certain areas really let the property and our holiday down. The master bedroom had black mold by the windows. The downstairs outside area was very dirty. The table had all green mold all under the glass. This was unusable, the table and chairs on the balcony were filthy from being left outside and the sunbeds were rusty. There were problems with the jacuzzi, after 3 days, we noticed all this dirt and grime around the jacuzzi and dirt floating all on the top. It should have been maintained twice during our stay according to the handbook in the house. Contacted Sykes three times for help, was told the company had been to sort it. No one arrived, jacuzzi was unusable, tried to clean it myself. Made no difference, asked Sykes for help, said they would speak to owners re compensation. Nothing was done, couldnt use it. This really upset everyone as this was a very special celebration for us all and cost me a lot of money for 1 week. Met the maintenance guy as we were leaving and he tried to say he jumped the fence to clean the jacuzzi during our stay. Well, what can you say to that? He was very rude and arrogant because he knew he had not done his job. I was angry and we all left to drive home gobsmacked by his response. Received an email to say owners werent prepared to apologise or take any responsibility. Such a disappointing attitude. No care or attention to detail, its obviously about the fast turnover of guests in high season and customer care and satisfaction is not a priority. Very sad end to what should of been a fab time celebrating with my family.

Lovely big spacious villa with amazing views , the hot tub is a great added bonus ! However upon arrival it was very evident that outside was extremely dirty . When we opened the French doors that led to the balcony ,the first thing that greeted us was clumps of wet grass all over the decking leading up to the hot tub ,the upvc door frames inside were absolutely filthy and so was the guttering definitely hadnt been cleaned this year so first thing we had to do was clean the whole decking area and wipe over the upvc. The hot tub had quite a bit of sand in ,so water definitely wasnt changed upon arrival ,probably topped up and chemicals added but listing states that water is changed after every guest so thats incorrect ,plus theres no way a hot tub would reach 38 degrees in a 6 hour window change!! 2nd bed base was broken upon arrival which should have been picked up on changeover! but once reported it was repaired within an hour excellent service from Carbis Bay ! There was no light bulb in 3rd bedroom lamp again should have been checked before our arrival Overall the Villa is lovely but the lack of cleanliness outside really let it down, when youre paying premium prices you expect the standards to be the same,so unfortunately I wouldnt stay in this villa again for that reason. I have the photos of the outside area if youd like me to send them over !!
Our 2nd stay at this beautiful appartment, it has everything you need for a perfect stay. It has the added bonus of a wonderful hot tub. The train station to St Ives is a 2 min walk away, or you can walk the beautiful coastal walk. The appartment has wonderful sea views. We would highly recommend beautiful Portside for a wonderful stay.
Everything at Portside was excellent. The holiday home has everything you need and more especially as it now has a hot tub. Lovely sea views with easy access to Carbis Bay beach and the train station.
This was a superb apartment and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay did not want to leave and wished we could stay longer! Portside has everything you could wish for, it is super comfortable, the views of Carbis Bay were stunning as always and to end the day with a dip in the hot tub was great. Thank you will definitely stay again.
Port side is a beautiful house in a lovely area. I cant think of anything to fault it. Comfortable, clean and everything you could need. Highly recommended
Superb house with amazing views over the bay and down into St. Ives. 1 minute walk from the station which is a 3 minute ride into St. Ives. Facilities in the house are as described and the open plan livingkitchen is of a very high standard. Hot tub is great with the amazing views. We were a family of 4 and plenty of space for more people, can imagine it is beautiful in the warmer months to eat outside on the balcony, we didnt have the best weather but didnt stop us. The EV charging point is a great addition to the house. Tesco is only 2 minutes away and the bars, restaurants and cafes in St. Ives are well worth a visit. Easy access to other places such as Lands End, Kyance Cove and Perranporth again with beautiful beaches, views and places to eat.
I have already sent an email re this. There is much to like about the property location, stunning views , very comfortable beds . I loved the spa bath. I stripped the beds prior to leaving, in order to help with housekeeper who had been very helpful. I discovered that the mattress cover and mattress in the master bedroom were badly stained and the duvet in the other big bedroom was also badly stained. Very disappointing.
We had a lovely time. The property had everything you can think of and the view is stunning. Hopefully we will return soon.
Perfect. Stunning home. Location is amazing. Loved everything about the house. So close to the train for journey to St Ives. So close to beach. Views from terrace and hot tub are
A pleasant property and generally well maintained. Two units in the kitchen would not open or close properly and crockeryglassware section needs an update i.e so there are 6 or one strand cups that fit the saucers etc. Otherwise satisfactory
Elizabeth
We have just returned from this lovely home. The house has everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay in the gorgeous Carbis Bay area. The owners had thought of everything , the house extremely clean & spacious & having your own parking space is such a bonus in this area. The train to take you into St Ives is right on your doorstep. Would not hesitate to book this house again. Sykes Cottages once again made everything very easy & streamline, with no issues at all. Thank You Sykes
Great place we had the best week stay here and will definitely be back
A second stay in a lovely apartment issues with the TV and Sky box several times during our stay not sure why an apartment of this quality and price shares the Sky system with the adjoining apartment, and surprised that the apartment wasn't cleaned halfway through a two week stay. Great view and excellent location, shame about the big price increases for 2022.
The villa was very nicely furnished, spacious and had a beautiful view. However, the images of some of the items inside the property were not very accurate, for example there was no Sonos speaker in the property, so we were disappointed as we purposely left our portable one at home thinking that there would be one provided. Some of the crockery were chipped which is not very hygenic. We had to wash the throws which had a musty smell on them, there were no bulbs in two of the bedroom lamps, we were unable to access Netflix or Sky movies in any of the rooms beside the one room that contained the double bed and the garden area outside of the master bedroom needed cleaning. I contacted Carbis Bay holidays regarding these matters on the first, second and third days We only had a fourday holiday but nothing was done about it apart from Luke coming out on the last day and logging us into the Netflix, which by that time was virtually no use as it was our last night there. Loved the villa but very disappointed with the lack of service from Carbis Bay and the owners.
Elizabeth
My family and I enjoyed a very successful stay at Portside. Proximity to station and beach was a great asset. Carbis Bay Holidays resolved the issues with the WiFi promptly and the washing machine door. Was contemplating booking the accommodation for next year we enjoyed the stay so much. Was disappointed to discover the price has increased 60 next year. Either this is an astute business move on behalf of the owner capitalising on the effect of the pandemic and G7 or naked profiteering.
Stephanie
Our family loved visiting portside. Ideally situated for the train and the beach. Our 4 year old was in her element!! Gorgeous property! Would love to visit again!
Excellent, clean and comfortable house in a convenient location right outside the train station, and a short walk to St Ives with all it has to offer. The Carbis Bay hotel spa passes were an additional luxury. Would highly recommend.brLynne Coombes

We had a lovely week at Portside despite the weather being up and down. We thought the accommodation was without a doubt one of the best holiday accommodation's that we have ever stayed in. When we arrived we were met by the housekeeper she was very friendly and welcoming. The accommodation was spotless when we arrived. Portside was very well equipped with a lovely kitchen which my husband very much enjoyed cooking in. The views from the open plan living area were amazing. The bedrooms were really spacious and very comfortable. My two daughters very much enjoyed bath time in the spa bath. E.Moscatelli
Everything at Portside was superb. Particularly enjoyed trips to Eden Project, Lands End, The Loft restaurant, Carbis Bay beach. Obviously the fantastic sunshine that we enjoyed really helped. K. Speed
Portside certainly lived up to our expectations. The position of the property was ideal for accessing the huge quiet beaches between St Ives and Hayle as well as being very convenient for the local shops The light and the views from the living area were beautiful. The house was very clean and comfortable and generally well equipped. L. Hymer
Portside in an excellent spot. If you have a visitors then get them to park in the Carbis Bay rail station car park opposite for free. Use the excellent 'lifeline' of the railway to travel to St Ives, it's cheap and really reliable. We used the following restaurants that we thoroughly recommend ........Black Rock, The Seafood Cafe, Carbis Bay Hotel,The Italian, Pizza Express, La Casista, The Bean Inn and Beck's Fish & Chips. L. Yarker
We really enjoyed our stay at Portside, the apartment was great spotlessly clean with everything we could have wished for, in fact everything from the booking onwards was very good, we did not want to come home. We would like to recommend Trevaskis Farm, also their farm shop is worth a visit, the walk into St Ives was very scenic as was the trip via the train. L. & M. Sales
We had a lovely stay at 'Portside' in Carbis Bay. The house was everything we expected and more. Big, Clean & Tidy. We enjoyed cooking in the spacious and well equipped Kitchen! We really enjoyed the convenience of the train station and a big Tesco not too far away. The coastal walk to St Ives is great. The only place to eat is the Porthminster Cafe! P. Henry
